Journal:

This trip was a 3 minute drive from our house. There is a shed at the entrance to Peter's Pond property on Quaker Meetinghouse Rd., where your Beach sticker will be checked (non-Resident passes are available from Sandwich Town Hall Annexe, across from the Library on Main St.). MAP

It took us 10 minutes to untie and unload the kayak from our Chevy Tracker, mostly due to total lack of knowledge about knots; (Note: investigate knot tying!) and use of Home Depot "rope" we had used to tie down a roll of carpet. Need nylon rope(s) - and stronger fingers!

The kayak weighs 64lbs (according to the manufacturer - Kiwi Kayak of Canada). This seems like 164lbs as we aren't used to lifting anything this big (c.14 ft long) onto or off a roof-rack. However, carrying it is a piece of cake due to handy moldings in front and back. Also nice to see that a standard foam pool noodle, cut in half, and split lengthwise will fit onto Tracker roof rack to protect kayak.

Beautiful sunny weather (about 80°F) but with a breeze across Peter's Pond that made steering back to the Town's fabulous floating dock a little trickier than expected.

Note: Everyone wearing their life vests (PFDs) Apparently since Jan 1st 2004 - Anyone on the water must wear one. Jessie tried hers out in our pool to see what it felt like to float/swim in one.

We made 2 short paddling trips to practice steering and general paddling. No-one got wet!!

Ben (13) steering and Jessie (9) as ballast.
